Nestled in the heart of Rye, the design for 2135 Point Nepean Road draws inspiration from the natural landscape of the Mornington Peninsula.

The façade draws direct inspiration from the local beach, echoing both the texture of the sand dunes and the curvilinear fluidity of the waves.

Despite performing dual functions as a mixed-use development, there is a soft distinction between the ground retail precinct that engages with the local community, and the private apartments above that bask in beach views. The linear articulation in the façade provides uninterrupted views whilst providing privacy between tenancies.

The form is curved on the corners to soften the mass and reiterate the metaphorical language of fluidity that informed the design. The strong horizontal breaks continue to draw on the ripples in the sand and sea, reiterating the strong relationship between the design response and its site.

The materiality was curated throughout, referencing the history of the site in the selection of the linear limestone fins, that was mined in the area for generations prior. This juxtaposition in texture not only ties the design to the site, but creates the opportunity for the past to embed itself in the future of the site.

The location of the site caters well to new opportunities for local economies to continue flourishing, in conjunction to providing a luxury living along the Peninsula.
