Australian Design Review has just unveiled the shortlist for the 2024 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), and we’re thrilled to announce our nomination for Designer of the Year!
Launched by inside magazine in 2003, IDEA celebrates the cream of Australian interior and product design across 13 project categories and six Special Awards, including the prestigious Designer of the Year Award, now in its fifth year.
The Designer of the Year Award, sponsored by Cult Design, isn’t something one can pursue directly. Instead, it’s an honour bestowed by the jury based on the body of work submitted to the IDEA competition. This year, we entered three projects: Winning Appliances Redfern, Deco House, and our own Melbourne Studio. All three have been shortlisted in their respective categories: Retail, Residential Single, and Workplace Under 1000sqm.
It’s truly humbling to be recognized by our industry peers, especially considering the calibre of talent demonstrated by past Designer of the Year winners, such as Flack Studio, YSG, Russell & George, and Arent&Pyke.
Jessica Coulter, Cera Stribley’s Interior Design Director, explains, “This award isn’t about self-promotion; it’s a peer-recognized honour that highlights designers who push boundaries and elevate the industry standard. It’s a testament to the impact of thoughtful, creative design solutions across different sectors.”
“What makes this nomination particularly meaningful is the emphasis on consistent quality across diverse projects. It’s not about a single standout piece, but rather a testament to the standard we strive to maintain in every endeavour we undertake.”
As we eagerly await the official winner announcements in November, we’re acutely aware that this nomination reflects our studio’s collaborative spirit. Every project represents the combined efforts of talented designers, supportive clients, and partners who believe in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
We owe an enormous THANK YOU to everyone involved. We wouldn’t be here without you.
