A Cera Stribley-designed ‘first-of-its-kind’ project has won VCAT’s approval

After three years of navigating a complex planning process, Cera Stribley, along with developers Above Zero and Wilbow Group, has secured VCAT approval for a new townhouse development on Glyndon Road, Camberwell. This marks a huge win for the team, especially given the notoriously strict planning controls in this sought-after pocket of Melbourne.

What makes this approval even more impressive is that it’s the first time a development of more than five dwellings has been approved in the Middle Camberwell area. The project will feature thirteen spacious family homes on a large ¾-acre site, blending contemporary design with the area’s architectural heritage.

The design of these three-, four-, and five-bedroom homes takes inspiration from Camberwell’s Federation-era charm, while incorporating modern elements to suit contemporary family living. With its single-storey street frontage and recessed second levels, the development is designed to fit right into the existing streetscape.

Modern townhouse development surrounded by lush landscaping, featuring eco-friendly architecture with curved facades, balconies, and large windows. Tall eucalyptus trees frame the scene, while colourful gardens and walking paths create an inviting community atmosphere.
Cera Stribley designed the townhouse development to be respectful to Camberwell’s Federation-era heritage, while also pushing the boundaries of modern residential design.

Each home will enjoy dual aspects and large private courtyards, creating an easy flow between indoor living spaces and outdoor areas. Plus, nearly half of the site has been reserved for greenery, making sure there’s a strong connection to nature.

“This is a big win for us. It’s a first-of-its-kind project in one of Melbourne’s most desirable suburbs, and we’re excited to bring it to life,” said AJ Batra, Managing Director of Above Zero.

Dom Cerantonio, Cera Stribley Co-Founder and Managing Principal, echoed the sentiment: “Getting this approval after such a long process is really satisfying. We’ve worked hard to create something that respects Camberwell’s unique character, while also pushing the boundaries of modern residential design.”

With design development underway, this project is set to make its mark on the Camberwell streetscape. It also strengthens the partnership between Cera Stribley and Above Zero, following the recent approval of another project – a 12-storey mixed-use development at Camberwell Junction.
